Westmoreland County will receive over $640,000 in federal money to upgrade law enforcement technology, according to an announcement made Tuesday in Greensburg by District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli and Congressman Guy Reschenthaler.
The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice and is earmarked for modernizing equipment used by local police departments and the district attorney's office. Officials say the money will go toward things like improved digital evidence systems, body cameras, and data-sharing tools that help different agencies work together more effectively.
Ziccarelli emphasized that better technology means faster investigations and stronger cases. "This investment directly supports the men and women who keep our communities safe," she said. Reschenthaler, who helped secure the grant, noted that small and mid-sized departments often struggle to afford these upgrades on their own. He called the funding a smart use of federal dollars that will have a real impact on public safety.
The grant is part of a broader push to modernize rural and suburban law enforcement. While specific purchases have not been finalized, county officials expect the upgrades to be in place within the next year. No matching funds from the county are required.
