MADISON, Ill. (May 20, 2026) - The Illinois State Police brought their annual fleet inspections to World Wide Technology Raceway on May 20, turning the track's pit road into a staging area for a thorough review of over 70 patrol vehicles.
Supervisors from ISP Troop 8 examined each squad car in great detail, checking not only the mechanical condition of the vehicles but also the tactical gear carried by troopers. The inspections covered everything from emergency lights and sirens to weapons storage and safety equipment. Each car was required to meet strict department standards before being cleared for duty.
The event has become a tradition at the raceway in recent years. Troop 8, which covers a large portion of southwestern Illinois, has used the facility's wide pit road and ample parking to conduct the inspections efficiently. The location allows troopers to line up their vehicles side by side, making it easier for supervisors to move from car to car and perform uniform checks.
Officials noted that the inspections help ensure that both personnel and equipment are ready for the demands of the upcoming summer months, when traffic on Illinois highways typically increases. The raceway, known for hosting major motorsports events, provided a fitting backdrop for the display of law enforcement precision and readiness.
