Passengers on Delta Air Lines are set for a major connectivity upgrade. The Atlanta-based carrier has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon to develop and implement a new, satellite-powered in-flight Wi-Fi system, with a target launch date of 2028.
This collaboration aims to revolutionize the digital experience in the sky. The promised technology will leverage Amazon's Project Kuiper satellite network to deliver significantly faster internet speeds with dramatically reduced latency. This leap in performance will enable activities that are currently challenging or impossible on most aircraft, such as seamless video streaming, smooth video conferencing, and real-time online gaming.
The initiative is part of Delta's broader, multi-billion-dollar investment into enhancing its customer experience. By moving beyond traditional satellite and air-to-ground systems, the airline seeks to provide a broadband-like connection that mirrors the reliability and speed customers expect on the ground. The enhanced system is designed to support a growing array of digital services and personalized entertainment options directly to passengers' devices.
While the full rollout is scheduled for 2028, the partnership signifies a substantial commitment to closing the final connectivity gap for travelers and setting a new standard for inflight digital access.
