A California-based tech executive has been arrested on federal charges for allegedly funneling sensitive American technology to Iran's military and nuclear programs. Jamshid Ghomi, an Iranian-American businessman, is accused of orchestrating a scheme to export equipment that is strictly controlled under U.S. export laws.
Fox News senior national correspondent William La Jeunesse reported that Ghomi used his position in the technology sector to bypass sanctions and ship restricted items to Iran. The case highlights ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to crack down on the illegal transfer of dual-use technology that could enhance Iran's military capabilities.
According to court documents, Ghomi allegedly set up front companies and used deceptive shipping methods to conceal the true destination of the goods. The exported technology is said to have potential applications in missile development and nuclear enrichment, raising serious national security concerns.
The arrest comes as part of a broader federal push to prevent adversaries from obtaining American innovations. If convicted, Ghomi faces significant prison time. The Justice Department has not released further details on the specific companies or individuals involved in the supply chain, but the case underscores the persistent challenge of enforcing export controls in the tech industry.
